PC Maintenance
One thing you need to do is schedule a periodic maintenance (a tune up) with an experienced PC Tech. Just as you would take your car to the mechanic for a tune up every 3000 miles, your PC needs to be "tuned up" every so often as well. A Tune Up will speed up your PC. How often your PC needs a tune up is determined by how many people actually use the computer. When the PC technician walks in the door, inform him/her that you want an estimate before he/she starts. If you informed the tech over the phone that you wanted your PC repaired, then you have told the tech that you are not requiring an on-site estimate.
What is involved in a tune up?
1) Check/remove viruses.
2) Remove spyware, unneeded programs, viruses and temp files.
3) Re-organize the files on the operating system.
4) Repair/replace defective files.

3) Re-organize the files on the operating system.
4) Repair/replace defective files.
In the event that the above four steps do not work, the next step is to wipe the hard drive clean and replace everything. But before the hard drive is wiped clean, the tech should:
1). Save your personal files, email files (archives, profiles, etc) off of your hard drive onto an external device (external hard drive, burn to a CD ROM, etc).
2). We also offer data backup to the internet http://pcaidfl.databu.com/partner/?id=pcaidfl. The cost depends on your needs!
3). Verify that you have all of your software discs before wiping the drive clean.
3). Verify that you have all of your software discs before wiping the drive clean.
Note: Make sure you have a copy of all your installed software whether you have a OEM System Restoral CD set or a set of individual CD's with each program from the OEM. (OEM is Original Equipment Manufacturer, I.E. Microsoft Office CD).
It is the Goal of PC Aid to save all your personal data (word documents, pictures, mp3, etc) to an external storage device before wiping the hard drive clean. We will also make every effort to save over your "favorite" web addresses for easy restoral.
